Sharking

conditions looked great for a night of chunking. went to the inlet just after dark and gathered several hickory shad. proceded to head to the beach in search of some sharks. landed four fish. largest was 58" and the second largest went 49". two others were over three feet but not quite the class of the bigger two. i did lose one in the wash that felt absolutely too big to mess with. most initial runs had me almost seeing the backing on my vs250. the most fun i have had fishing in a long time. wish some friends were there to join in!

the biggest ones were browns. the two smaller had decent teeth but were not brown sharks. someone in know told me dusky's were in too. ?. the smaller ones were in the 20#'s from what i could tell. i can't even guess a weight on the larger sharks....i grabbed the tail (which was like grabbing someones ankle) and dragged them back. maybe 50# or so?

does anyone know if you can eat them and how big do they gotta be

fish factor...i was using a variety of size chunks. when i started getting low on bait i was cutting about an inch and a half width and doing fine. my last shark came on a head. vin i took a couple pics with my cell phone but they are just round because of the head lamp. i'll see what i can do.

Yes you can eat them. Have to be 48in.

Not wanting Rebel to have all the fun by himself..some guy w/ a fishing problem and I joined forces last night,,, I haven't had so much fun fishing in a long time,, We looked like we had our own comedy club routine.. I have never caught a shark with real teeth,cool.,,some of last nite stories ,,well you can't make this up,, 4 young adults come onto beach ,,decide to swim,,,they are only 50yds away,, it's 11:30 pm,,I yell we're catching shark,, next second Jon hooks up(no pun intended),, the fish is walking Jon towards them,, I run ahead and express how they may want to consider getting outa the water,, hey that girl is naked,, They are kinda in disbelief that we are really catching sharks,hmmm.Jon lands the shark and they decide to repair their backyard pool.
I learned how to grab a shark by its' tail,, though never did correctly,, they wiggle.

definately a highlight of the last few years fishing. you could write a book on the funny stories from last night. i was happy to beat my best from the previous night with a shark over five feet and had to be pushing into the 60's#. really wish i saw the one that broke me off because the run it took was second to none. rick has landed a lot of bass for me over the time but i don't think i will have him helping with sharks anytime soon. also broke my own rule of wearing waders at night, it was so hot, and took them off. have a really nice scabbed up ankle from a tail. the skin cuts you up!


bait was bluefish and shad caught hour before at the inlet.

Awesome report!! Shark skin will give you road rash :affraid: I can attest to that, when they bump you it is said that they can taste you :shock: I dont know if this is true or not.

I really think they can taste you,, right after that one bumped Jon,, it threw-up!
