What do you use to clear coat your plugs. Have a couple painted with Krylon rattle cans and was going to use their clear coat but......when I look at the plugs that I have purchased the clear coat on them looks thick. Is that from layering or a different kind of clear coat?

Most use epoxy. There are two brands that are used by most: Devcon 2 ton, 30 minute and envirotex lite.

The Finer the better you want to rough up the surface not dig into it .

Then wipe it off with a damp Paper Towel befor you do the next coat

Take your time and they will come out nice

You can get envirotex at Micheal's, It's thinner then devcon and has a longer working time, I can do 5 - 6 plugs before it starts to set up. I have found devcon in larger size at a local hobby shop, I can only do one plug at a time with it before it starts to set up, but it does come out nice !!!

devcon can no longer be bought at wally world . the only place i have found it was harbor freight. i used etex thinner longer work time but you must spin it .i had no luck hanging it. the devon works better for that .

E tex with out a spinner can be a real mess with a New guy

The etex is great stuff but harder to work with
For a New Builder i would start with Epoxy then move your way up

Mike ,I never used epoxy .
Started with etex and had nice results . I flip 'em 2-3 times and let 'em cook in my home made oven for 48 hr's.

I'd post pics if I could figure out how

To post a pic download the pic to your personal gallery and then copy and paste it to your post. Would love to see that oven

I use etex and love the results if yout gonna sand a dry coat of epoxy all you have to do is use a fine scotchbrite and scuff it to there isnt any gloss left that will provide a good surface for the fresh coat to bind to.
