Final Clear Coat Question?????? Empty Final Clear Coat Question??????

Post  fishing17402 5/28/2009, 3:30 pm

I know people use etex and devcon but I can not get it to dry nice and even like a lot of the plugs I see on here is there another top/final coat I can spray on. I am looking to get a finish for example like fixters have and it is the last step I need to figure out besides getting the action down the way I want it. Any help would be awesome.

Etex has a spray on epoxy top coat that you can order. I have never used it but have heard it works well. What kind of problem are you having with the dev con? I use dev con almost exclusively and have never had problems with my finish.

I can not get in to lay evenly. I have tried brushing it on and other things and ip just doesn't run like I want it to. I was a nice even finish and everything I have tried seems to get screwed up somehow. and everytime I use etex it feels about half solf and sometimes sticky.

ARE YOU USING A SPINNER. IF YOU JUST LET THE PLUG SIT IN ONE SPOT THE EPOXY WILL RUN. IT WONT SET UP SMOOTH. ARE YOU MIXING IT EVEN ONE PART TOO ONE PART. A SPINER WILL KEEP THE PLUG MOVING SO THE EPOXY WILL NOT RUN. ETEX WILL SET UP IN ABOUT 6 HOURS WHERE YOU DONT HAVE TOO KEEP IT SPINNING. IT WILL TAKE ABOUT 24 HOURS TOO BE CURED. WHERE ITS NOT SOFT OR STICKY.

put the entire thing of devcon in a cup of hot water for 5 mins or so before you use it, makes it flow a lot better, for more even coverage.

you don't need a spinner, just coat it with a brush and hang, then flip end for end a few times until it sets up.

remember though, devcon sets so fast that you will only get 1 or 2 plugs per mix, so use it sparingly!
