What is this wood Empty What is this wood

I found an old reel section of a boat pole, nice piece of wood. Hard wood I am thinking maple. Any thoughts on what it may be? I have enough to make 2 plugs, so will they float or sink. It is amazing how you look at a piece of wood now. And just walking through a store looking at what you may be able to use.

It's probably maple! Most were.

found out is was maple, making 2 needles and a rocket out of it. thanks iti s a solid piece of wood too.
