DANGER AND SNAG HOOKS

How many of you have hooked themselves or someone else. Last night a guy from Rariton bay who goes by the name of BUNKER GARY got a snagging hook right to the eye. I was fishing with Paul and Gary when I heard Paul say cut the line. I turned to look and saw Gary backing up to snap his line and all of a sudden i heard a thump amd him almost go down to his knees. The snagger hit him in the eye, and it was ugly. Paul got some gause pads and he was taken to the hospitol. I learned a long time ago always to turn around when doing that and have been hit in the back and have had my tip shattered several times doing that. I wish I had time to stop him and turn him around.

DAMN!!!!!!!!!! THAT SUCKS!!!!!!!!LUCKY HE DIDN'T KILL HIMSELF!!!!!!!!

A guy in LI got hit in the temple last year and did it trying to get a sinker out of the rocks. When it pops out it is heading right for the tip area or your rod.

Got one in the face last summer in North wildwood, missed my eye by an inch or so.... ripped it out, put a bandaid on it and kept fishin, but the snag hook went right into the bag and didnt come out again for a long time.

IT SAD TO SAY IT HAPPENS MORE THAN WE THINK IT DOES . THATS ONE REASON I DONT LIKE GOING OFF A PIER, SEEN TO MANY ACCIDENTS ,ONE THREE YR OLD BOY HAD HOOK SET IN HIS HEAD DEEP. :affraid: THATS WHY WHEN CASTING GIVE ASHOUT OUT :twisted: :twisted:

ouch!!!! snaggers r very dangerous when u snaging close to a boat or around the surf. This and that other story of the guy who died last year because a 3oz sinker when threw his head!! guys gotta be careful!!!!

Gary has given me an update on his status. He has bleeding inside of his eye ball which is making his vision blurry. He did not have to get any stiches he was very lucky. The snag hook hit him above his right eye in the eye brow, missing his eye ball by less than a half inch this could have been a disaster the poor guy should play the lottery that is how lucky he is. It was bleeding alot and at first we thought it would need a few stiches but it turns out that was not the case it was swelling extremly fast as there was a blood pocket forming from the impact.

It happened extremly fast. I turned around and gary was pulling the line. I told him Gary don't do that hold the spool and turn your head and wham a split second after saying that it broke out. It hit him so hard the impact caused the injury to look as if he was punched in the eye and caused an injury that would be similar to getting punched in the eye!

To all those out there who know Gary you know he can get nervous and excited very easily, as we all know he is not a well person. He was very shaken up but we kept him calm. I spoke to his mother on the phone and she came to take him to the hospital. With this all said Bunker Gary is off the water for a few weeks as per doctors orders. He is going for a follow up next week hopefully everything will clear up soon so he can be out and about again. For all of you who have Gary's number give him a call he is home bound and misses the water already he is calling me for fishing reports all day long.

FOR THE REST OF US BE CAREFULL ESPECIALLY WHEN USING MONO! It is like a rubber band when it streches braid tends to snap as it had no give but if you are that desperate to unhook a snagger TURN YOUR HEAD AND POSSIBLY SAVE YOURSELF FROM A SERIOUS INJURY!!!

I also remember the LI death due to a sinker. Since then I have been turning my back and try to hold the rod away from me as well. Don’t forget about those around you also.
