Two friends and I tried the beach in N. Wildwood last night, only to find heavy fog and a lot of grass in the water. Moved over to the Bay side and worked a jetty and beach there. Had some fish splashing around us, but they were small. We soaked Clam and tossed poppers and pencils, but never got a touch. The Clam was getting attacked by something small, but even with smaller hooks and baits we couldn't catch them. Eventually the outgoing tide made holding bottom an impossibility, so we called it quits. Despite the fog and lack of fish, it was a fun night out.

It's always a good time fishing with friends even with out catching.
They will get hungry soon. I will have to get down that way this year. I use to love it at night down south there.
Thanks for the report Bay side beach and jetty last night 870783

Hoping to get them next time. Tried by boat twice, and the jetty once, all skunks so far. I'm thinking I've pissed off the Fish Gods somehow Very Happy Anyway... Has anyone else heard about the Specks being caught in the Bay? I've caught my fair share of Specks, but never in the Bay. And never on bait. At first I heard it was the netters catching them, then I heard guys were fishing for them, or at least catching them. Anyone else heard this? Just wondering what they would be eating. Can't imagine they'd be able to see a MirroLure in that murky water, fell the vibes maybe...

Every year there are specs caught in the bay - mostly by guys fishing tribs under bridges at night and such.

I know that you can get them on lures but not sure what they do - I think they are fishing edges and shallows instead of just the main bay area

Thanks for the reply Capt. Ahab. We've always targeted them along the shallows too, but always with plugs, jigs , and lures in the ICW along the flats and bridges and such. These guys are in the Delaware Bay though. I've just never known of them in there. Also heard of Sheepshead mixed in, just seems really early.
So what are tribs???

I will give you a hint what is going on in the front of the bay right now - they have soft mouths and a limit of 1 fish!

few larger ones have been caught on the DE side the past weeks - one over 9 lbs
