Recomendations for a Jetty Rod
Looking for some ideas as to what you guys think would be a good rod for some jetty fishing.
I now have an 8' Tica and a 10'Lami SS but don't think either would have enough backbone to wrestle a descent sized fish in the rocks. Yes/No?
I don't plan on running out and buying one today, but wanna start keeping an eye out for potential deals.
I'd like a 1 piece rod, probably 9 foot....... maybe 10...... spinning...... capable of handling the bigger bucktails for the inlet and hopefully some plugage as well.
PS: If anyone has too much gear and would like to donate one to the cause.......... LOL

Re: Recomendations for a Jetty Rod
Whats wrong with what you have? You are not going to lift a fish over the rocks  Use what you have and pick your spot in the rocks that gives you the best chance to land the fish. I go during the day and pick a few spots that are low to the water and fairly dry. Take good mental notes of the spots for nightime fishing. And don't forget a gaff

I knew someone would find a reason for me NOT to buy more gear, I just thought it would take a while longer...... gee thanks

The 8ft tica is what I'm carrying when I'm on the rocks, along with my 10ft bamboo jetty hook.

Got the Korkers, got the gaff....... and never meant to imply that I planned on hoisting the fist up the rocks to the top of the jetty....... I get the whole "landing procedure".
To me the rods I use for the sandy surf just don't seem to the stout enough to throw the larger bucktails in the fast sweep of an inlet current, let alone being able to steer a fighting fish through that strong current to a suitable landing area. I guess I'm gonna find out soon enough.

Wrong! The best all around jetty stick for you would be the 9 foot SS

Re: Recomendations for a Jetty Rod
Ok I have the perfect jetty rod for you. Its a 9ft Lami Inshore Classic rated XH 1-4oz, it has serious backbone yet will toss a Rapala X-rap and work it with sensitivity. Bewtween working plugs, bucktails, wobbleheads, live eels, Storms, this thing is very versatile. I have had so many friends fall in love with my set up, after fishing with me and trying it, two of them went out and got one. It is paired in perfect weight/balance ratio with a Penn 460 Slammer. You don't need anything more than 9ft off the rocks, and you want backbone, this is the one trust me.
