Re: July 12th SBO Tuna Trip......
67-72 for bluefins..... about the same for yellowfins.... once the water temps get above 74 yellowfins start to disapear, thats why we get a chunk night bite later in the year. when the water is warm they go down deep and rise in the water column to feed at night when the temps drop off a bit.

Re: July 12th SBO Tuna Trip......
And they are big!!!
We ran Sunday morning, leaving at 12am towards the Bluefin grounds in less than desirable conditons (We got a whooooopin')
We arrived at the hambone and saw one fish hooked. The temps were 72* and the water was a decent blue.
We worked that area then moved out by ourselves to somewhere on the 30 line.
We worked the area and found LOTS of bait and fish. As we stopped and pulled our trolling gear, a deep ballyhoo/Llander combo being reeled in was hit, and briefly hooked, then lost!
So we Jigged, and in ten minutes we were hooked up to a MONSTER. 20-30 minutes into the battle, the Penn Torque being used (20#'s of drag) Decided to detonate and the internals exploded. Need less to say, we lost a real nice fish. We had quite a few other hits on jigs, but nothing came tight.
There was lots of bait here and the temps were 72.5* and we fished a break, dirty green water on one side, and blue water on the side we fished.
We began our search for more fish to jig, So we set out a search spread of two Hoo'/llander combos and no sooner than that we had a 30vsw go off, before we knew it (about 20-30seconds) we were down to a quarter spool, another 15 seconds and it would have been spooled. We got a few wraps on it, and about 20 minutes later, a fat 140# 63" fish hits the deck....
The fish are here and they are feeding on sandeels, the ones we encountered were all nice fish.
All in all, meat in the box, and great times with good buddies!
