Fish with no hooks
Today was the same as it's been all week with the bluefish. I fished from the beach for a little bit. Today I used a topwater plug that I took all of the hooks off. The big blues were crashing on top of it all the way in from the time it hit the water. I had one grab it and wouldn't let go I had him all the way to the sand on the shore before he released it.
Indian Island has bunker washed up all along the beach. Wait until the sun comes out tomorrow and strarts baking it you wont be able to stand the smell. I haven't been downtown Riverhead to see if the Bunker killoff is on the river like it was last year. I'll probably take a ride down later on.

Re: Fish with no hooks
The bunker get chased up into a few little creeks and also into the riverfront area behind Main St in Riverhead. There is just nowhere for them to go. Too many, not enough O2 and you can walk across the river on their backs.
It got really nasty in the spring. Behind Larry's Lighthouse they all got pushed in with the tide and didn't go back out with it. Sat there for over a week until the town took seven 40 yard dumpsters full of mostly bunker with some bass, blues and weakies in the mix.
There were some LARGE blues around the week before that though. Sick fishing.
