Here it goes a simple how to
This will be how to make a small polaris popper
heres the blank with the profile roughed in to size take the skew and cut the dimensions you want the finished plug tho be
Hers thefinished blank
sanding the plug to provide the smooth finish for the paint and primer
heres the finished plug blank waiting to be drilled
here how i threw drill the plugs on the lathe
I measure all the plugs and mark them to provide a uniform spot for the belly hook hole
next i cut the end off thr blank to 15 degrees
[heres the ball i use to cut the cup notice im wearing gloves if you look at my thumb youll see why
Heres the finished cut popper cup
next i cut the final end off the plug blank
heres the end result
driling the tail hole for the weight
now youre done with the pre seal and pre paint work heres the result of all your work end of first lesson next will be sealing and primer/paint

Re: Here it goes a simple how to
you can also drill the tailweight hole on the lathe with regular twist bits, probably a little safer that way too.
I usually use a smaller size first (3/16-1/4), then go up to 3/8" (assuming you're using the 3/8" dia tailweights).
You can put a piece of tape on the bit so you know how deep to go.

Re: Here it goes a simple how to
nice how to, only that glove scares me by the lathe. have you ever used a drill press with the rasp to do the pocket

Re: Here it goes a simple how to
I know what you mean about the gloves i was allways taught not to wear gloves around rotating equipment but the damage that can be caused to your hands outweigh the cons of wearing gloves in my mind. Believe me i am very familiar with the hazards associated with working around rotating equipment.I started on the drill press but took too long and was hard on the back. The way i do them now only takes about 1 minute so its prety quick to do.
