Soft Plastics? Empty Soft Plastics?

Post  Captain Ahab 7/10/2011, 8:46 pm

While I do not build hard baits I do love? (well I like to use what I make anyway) to pour my own soft plastics. i have a variety of both "off the shelf" and custom molds that I use

Anyone else do this for either fresh or salt?

I have been experimenting with a mold that I made from a stretchy durable plastic from dahlbergs lure building site. I pour em with a heat activated plastic called alumisol. They dont seem to come out consistently though, lots of bubbles and inconsistancies in the curing of the plastic.

Never tried alumisol. I pour with Plastisol which is what 90% of most commercial luremakers use,

I prefer aluminum molds as you get much better results, of course you need to either have CNC skills or access to someone who has those to make aluminum molds - I have had good results with Plaster of Paris and silicone

For a sluggo I would not use a softer - what formula plastic are you using? I use a 536 for just about everything which is already really soft

For Swimbaits I like a 500 or 502 depending on the size of the tail
