"Strummin" Weekend! 6/12-6/13
Sat- Plan was to try for some puppy drum for the incoming, and switch to bass for the outgoing. Got down to the slip @ 6ish, up to the fuel dock for bait and off we went. On a slight chop/calm day, it takes us less than 15mins to get to the drum grounds.Today it took us a good 40mins. The w^nd was with the tide(incoming, south) but it was honking 25. Got to the grounds and setup and wasnt to bad. First fish was on and in the book at 7:01.
30" Drum fish! Next fish was hooked up @7:15! Was gonna be one of those days! Riss faught the fish to the back of the boat and SNAP! Leader breaks..It happens Fish was roughly the same size as the one I landed. Quick re rig and back in the water two rod spread. Riss gets hooked up again..Fish runs and runs and runs but no head shake Finally get it boat side and gigantic cow nose ray!
After that it was dead...Nothing. The bite had shut down. We stayed for the remaining of the incoming. Tide died out and we made a slight move north to try for some stripers. Had to wait a bit for the tide to starting running out,got setup and started to chunk. A few small taps, and one really nice run but didnt connect. Around 5oclock we called it quits. Back to the dock for blacked drum on the grill!!!
Sun- Got down to the marina about 1030. Had super fresh bunker and shedder crab.Plan was to maybe drift for flounder but really try for bass. Got out near the channel with no drift and no wind, and super super hot temp. Since fishing was dead, we took a long slow ride down to 14ft light house took a few pics and back up the bay to cool off. When we arrived back up in the upper bay where we wanted to bass, the tide had just started to roll out. Perfect timing! Got setup in 39 feet of water and started to chunk...
Feisty 31"...Next fish was a 29"..wham bam im done! Next up is Riss, first fish is 20" trying to take a head!!!! After a few shorts and a few runs and taps she hooks up with a 28" right on the nose!(Pic in lady angler form)Caught 8 bass total with 3 keepers to 31".
Back to the dock by 330 before the nasty storm rolled through.Super weekend! Great to get back into the bass again, gonna keep at it till july!
