want to get a kayak

i want to get a kayak but am not looking to break the bank I'm not sure i will even like.
I see dicks sporting goods and costco has some and are around $300.00 im leaning more toward the one from dicks.

any thoughts on that one as a starter yak?????

I want one also but to get one that I can fit in without sinking I have found will cost me considerably more than this. Hopefully I can sell my boat this year and downsize to a small center console and a Yak

Sunday, April 25th there is going to be a demo day at Assunpink Lake. There will be many yakers there with many different types that can be demo'ed by anyone that shows up. It is being done by yakers with no affiliations of any sort. You will be able to ask questions and see how guys rig them up, should be a good time and no one will be trying to sell anything. There is suppose to be some real pros there.

smitty - you would be better off buying something better used, then you will find at those places.

I agree with try before you buy….a kayak that does not feel right for you will end up on craigslist in no time

I am a strong supporter of the Hobie peddle drives…it is just flat out convent and I can do more with my legs than I can with a paddle.

Ditto on the hobie, only way to go IMO

There will be plenty of hobie's at J-Bay.

I have in the past, but was unable to make it last year and probably not this year…tons of good people there and it is a fun atmosphere not competitive at all (at least it was a few years ago)…I think I may try and fish the sedge islands behind IBSP that weekend.
