I picked up a used vs100 the other day and had heard that if the serial number was under 7000 that it would still be covered by the lifetime warranty as long as it was sent in every year for service. I sent an email to Van Staal telling them that I had just gotten the reel Seroial number 17xx and wasn't able to check with the past owner to saee if it was sent in yearly and if there was any way to tell through their records if it was. This is the answer that I got back from them.
Really not sure what this lifetime warranty covers after reading this though.
This reel does fall into the lifetime service warranty if serviced every year. However the warranty doesn't transfer over to you. The first time the reel would be serviced by you, you would have to pay for the service, shipping, and any and all parts needed. That would then put the warranty under you. After that point as long as you send the reel into us every 12 months for servicing, you would only be charged the service fee, shipping, and wear items, which are line roller, handle bushings, and drag washers. All other parts would be covered from that point on.

Thank you,

I still find it hard to believe that these reels cost so much and then still need "service" every year. I could see some parts needing replacements now and again and a good cleaning a couple times a year.

And yes, I do own a VS. I purchased the service kit for it and try to keep it up myself.
