Upper Bay 9/12-9/13
Sat-
Got down to fortescue late friday night. The weather was horrible, and the bay was like a washing machine. I knew it would be difficult fishing for saturday. Got down to the marina mid morning grabbed some shedders and bunker and headed over to the wreck. The tide was just about dead, but with the hard northwest blow it took forever for the tide to switch. Im not one for the incoming tide, i prefer to fish the outgoing. But we had no choice, and decided to give it ago. Wind against tide, couldnt get right on top of the structure. We caught loads of oyester crackers, a few dog fish, and one tog just keeper size.
We also tried for some stripers, managed two small ratty stripes with no signs of bigger fish on the bite. Back @MI by 5ish.
Sun-
The end of the outgoing was late morning,so if we got up early enough we could catch the rest of it. Out on the water by 8ish,headed straight for the wreck. Arrived with the stiff NW blow and outgoing. So it wasnt to bad, dropped the hook and drifted over and started to fish. Right away Maurissa gets a 19"tog.
Me on the other was busy with undersized sea bass and crackers. Next thing i know, her rod is pegged to the gunwale and shes screamin get the net ready. She fights the fish for a few seconds and then nothing. The tog got back down into the wreck and broke her leader on the structure. Not even 5 mins later im hooked up with the beast!!!
It was the fish she lost!!!! Her hook and leader was still pegged in the lips of the fish!!!
Then it was back to catching crackers and few sharks....Then Riss hooks into this....
Nice tasty puppy drum!!!
After the tide died down we headed back in close and tried for some weakfish...nothing. Ive just about given up on those fish. In six or so hours i would rather bail tog,and keep one, than sit with maybe a few nibbles and a few keeper weaks.
All fish were caught on top of the wreck/structure. Outgoing tide, and on shedder crab. We had some greenies but the tog and drum really liked the ripe shedders we got from Joe. The weather wasnt the best, but we still had a great two days out on the water.
19"Tog weighed in @4.13lbs
24"Tog weighed in @7.9lbs
22"Puppy Drum weighed in @6.00lbs

Its one of my favorite types of fishing. Chunking fresh bunks on a crisp fall morning on the outgoing tide....
We dont fish much in the lower, not that we havent. Theres alot of fish in the upper, just havent found that one over 30lbs yet
Seen monsters though at the docks year previous, just like Marks(8my8t).
