Hunter rod vault replacement

The Hunter rod vaults are nice and they do lock your rods & reels in but what about that dick that walks by and decides to take the spool or handle off your VanStaal? He didn't get the reel but its going to cost you 300 to replace what he did take. I couldn't find a company out there that make a locking box for the reel and didn't want to put everything inside my car everytime I left it so I decided to make my own up. I had the Thule rod box but it was made of plastic and if you push a little on the corner it would pop up. It did keep the reels out of site though.
I decided to go with the diamond plate toolbox. I took off the top handle and the hinges from the rear and put the hinges on the short side so it would open from the side. I had to cut the long side so the top would close over the rods. I used some pipe insallation for cushons and to keep any water out. A hasp on the other short side and bolt it right to my roof racks and I should be set.

I ran bolts through the center of my Thule racks 4 1/2" bolts with big flatwashers inside the box.Changed the strofoam protectors for rubber ones they seem to work a lot better. Reels are definatly more secure now and someone will have to do a little work to get them.
