Looking for longer bucktail
I wondering if you guys can help me out. My wife has been tying teasers for the back of my plugs for a couple months now and wants to try tying some bucktail jigs. I'm talking 2 to 4 oz with 7/0 - 8/0 hooks the only problem is finding the hair long enough to tie them. I'm in Monmouth county but I also wouldn't mind ordering them online. So if anyone knows where I can find longer hair I would appreciate it. I'm thinking it doesn't even hve to be dear hair. Just not the nylon stuff. Also is their a different thread you guys use for tying bucktils as opposed to teasers. Thanks in advance

Re: Looking for longer bucktail
talk to joefishingproblem. he shoots deer in the summer even
on a side note....wouldn't you want natural hair for the level of bouyancy it supplies to the jig? i tied some teasers and the like with synthetic and have never touched the stuff since. just did not react the same way in the water to me.

Re: Looking for longer bucktail
Easy with the red neck stuff...lol!!!! I shoot for my County here in NY( we call them nusiance permits) all of our kills go to needy families...we butcher and grind about 2500 lbs of healthy venison a year( its distributed in 1 lb packages).....but I digress.......Summer deer tails just don't work as well, as fall/ winter hair is thinner and more brittle... proper processing is also essential to good B/T hair.....split the tail down the bone wash out any blood or fforeign debris.........lay flat...skin side up and LIBERALLY aply BORAX *NOT* salt....leave in a cool dry area for 5-7 days...voila.....a tail that will tie some nice B/T.

Re: Looking for longer bucktail
if you want long hair get friendly with a deer butcher. That's how I get all mine. For plugs, I have to cut the hair in half, the hair is so long.
