Modifying a Popper Face
I have a box full of SuperStrike poppers ready for Mexico.I want to take a few to the shop and drill/mill some holes in the face cup,out through the head.Question is,would putting the holes in ther lower half or upper half of the face/head make any difference?
My goal is to have less drag, and create a bubble trail. What I do not want to happen is the plug to dive.If possible,I would like it to ride a bit higher in the nose.Hence the location question.

Re: Modifying a Popper Face
Hey Joe.
All my SS's are 2.375 oz. sinkers. We do some modifying on them for big roosterfish and jacks in Mexico.
We replace the stock trebles and go with a bigger VMC treble on the belly, and no tail hook.We also drill out the ass end in the bottom, about 3/4" from the end and fill the cavity with birdshot, then epoxy over. This takes it close to 2.75-3oz. and makes it a fish catching missile!
I want to tweak it some more
Thanks

Re: Modifying a Popper Face
If you do drill them to be more like a smoker, than I would dip the head in some prop after, so you have a water tight sealed plug. I have done this with some of my popper faces as well, I think OldSalts has some poppers with drilled faces too.
