the new rod lock......

well after hearing what happened to a bunch of fellow fisherman with the rods getting stolen from the rod rack i took the time to make me a and my father in law a rod lock for our rod holders.

let me know what you think.

this is true but if it will keep the average Joe from thinking about taking them than purpose served.

looks good Smitty just hope they dont have a adjustable wrench with them to take off the crosby clamps i think you could do something very similar with a piece of pipe slid threw the eyes with a washer welded on one end and a hole for the lock in the other end where it goes threw the eye bolt .might have to bend the eye bolts up so they would allow the pod to slide above the reel foot but i think it would be easyer to lock up and maybe a little safer just my 2c.take it for what its worth

this is just a proto so i will be making some changes to it but i like the fact i can remove it with the 2 locks

i was thinking about the pipe but went with the home depot quickie lol....

I always carry a full tool belt when i go out .......LMAO......Just kidding around ....LOL

I know that times are getting bad and some people will go to the extreme to try to make a buck...It is just ashame that we have to do something like this to try and protect our stuff...

lol no i dont travel with a full tool belt but i all ways have the basic tool in the truck you never know when youll need them.to fix the truck that is.

They say that locks are only meant to keep honest people out. Your setup will definately keep your gear from becoming a target of opportunity.

You're not going to keep a die-hard thief from getting your stuff no matter where you put it.

looks good Smitty. But I have similar concerns, if someone really wants it they can also snap the reel off the rods. Also is there enough play for someone to pick up the rod and unthread the reel from the rod?

Smitty Looks good and will keep someone walking by from just picking up one of your rod and reels---now don't forget to take your keys out of the truck.
