Re: Bail or Manual Pick up
When dead sticking with bait I always use bailed baitrunners. When plugging it's always bailless.

SO FAR ALL I USE IS BAIL REELS. LOOKING AT A VS 150 WITH THE BAIL. I HAVE A QUESTION ? WITH OUT THE BAIL ON THE REEL,WHEN POPPING DOES THE LINE COME OUT FROM UNDER THE PICK UP ? I HAVENT GONE BAILLESS, SO I DONT KNOW HOW IT IS OR ISNT.
Re: Bail or Manual Pick up
Well 11 VS's with manual and 6 706's are manual. Each one is set on a rod for what I am going to do next. I have 1 bail reel a penn650 that I use for snagin bunker.

I saw a video I think it was on U Tube. The guy demonstrated how to fish a pencil popper on a bailless reel.he held the line tight against the rod with right hand. To control slack line. And reeled with the left hand. Wish I could rember where the video was.

Re: Bail or Manual Pick up
Yeah I have never had a problem with Manual Pick up . It has never slipped and putting the lin eon the roller fast soon becomes second nature .
I pencil pop by holding the line close to the rod and never had a problem .
I dunk my reels way to much to use Penns any more ..I still have em and will chunk with a 706 this year
The 150 imho is too small especially guys with Fat hands . I wont go any smaller than a 200

Re: Bail or Manual Pick up
i have a recurring problem with premature activation seriously my penn 550 is forever closing on the cast. have lost some good equipment that way. will never buy another penn reel. got 5 shimano baitrunners and they have never missed a beat. hopefully i can save up for a VS someday.
