Re: " Fatfingers "..... "Art and Retrospective"...
Just finished a jerkbait that I didn't think I was going to like...
Its a standard profile, so it had nothing to to with the way the carving came out. Instead it was the paint. I tried a new scale pattern and a new color at the same time, which is always dangerous for me. I usually have trouble with one or the other. But the color was good and the scale pattern laid out okay.
It was a problem of what to do with the bait from there. How could I trim off the area around the eyes and what type of belly would look okay with that rather strong overall paint scheme? Hadn't thought of that, but once I got to that point I really had no answers. So...I did what I always do when I'm puzzled with a bait...I toss it aside till something comes to me.
But nothing did.
So I grabbed it and took a chance on some gold over black near the eyes and a standard, rather classic white belly, which I sort of "silverized" with silver pearl scales (the silver is VERY faint so its a lot whiter than it sounds but pearls are like that).
Anyway, somehow it came together and I'm going to be good with it. Its hard for me to fish with a bait I don't like but I made peace with this one and actually I think it might become a favorite. Its a sort of carp scale pattern with a more or less redhorse color so it should produce on a few of our local waters.
It IS NOT that fancy, but I'll post it later.

Stunning Perch paint jobs! I really love the subtle variations and killer gill cover details. Passion, it's a disease.
