Labor Day weekend- Upper DE Bay
Had a great weekend, one of Tom's coworkers came down with us for the weekend. He freshwater fishes so he was in for a real treat with saltwater style fishing. Got up at 5 on the water by 615, headed out with some fresh bunkers and shedders. Saturday was beautiful, it was warm with a nice breeze. We fished out front of MI and tried for some weakies. I caught one short weakie about 12 inches. We reeled in some junk-oyster crackers, sand sharks, sea bass and blues- we kept 4 blues. Decided to make a run for tog over on some structure. Spent a good 30 or so min. anchoring up. Wind started to pick up so we had a hard time setting the anchor where we wanted to be. It was non stop action on the Tog- got 3 keepers- Matt caught one at 19 inches, mine was also 19 inches and Tom's at 16 inches -all caught on shedder.
Went out sunday, again with fresh bunker and shedders. We setup out front between gandys and money island, and tried for some weakies. Didnt have much luck, so we tried another spot out front of Fortescue, and Matt hooked into a nice 19 inch fluke- go figure two days after closing the season, so he threw him back and we also caught some croakers, a blow fish, small blues and sharks again. It was a little choppy, but thought to try one more spot before calling it a day. Headed out towards the channel and anchored up. Had a blast hooking into some stripers, biggest was 26 inches. Threw him back in, but glad to see lots of bass are there!! (surface) water temp was 74F- so a few more weeks we should start seeing some bigger resident fish! Swells 3-4 ft. started rollin through, so we called it a day.
Monday we didnt go out, it was rough and thought to head home early and luckily we beat the labor day weekend traffic!
