Mackerel and Shad.
The Mack will get an eye update in the near future 1.5 oz
The Shad is 1 oz. I make it in 3 variations, a darter, swimmer and deep diver.
Both are cast Urethane from models I made, as was the Peanut.

I don't sell, but I do barter. Like I said, living up here in the Gulag leaves on wanting for parts.smokinjoe wrote:All i can say is wow, very nice baits for sure..will any be for sale?if so i would like to get a few of your baits. :)

It's not paint, it's a photo, over foil finish. I concocted a way of putting a photo finish over foil, so the underlying shine of the foil bleeds through.HandCarvedLures wrote:like the paint , very fishy
BTW, I'm a huge admirer of your work.

Re: Mackerel and Shad.
Thanks Doc. I have to say, the Resin "Tins" have juiced me up. When I started fishing, back in the 50's, Tins were the mainstay of my tackle arsenal as they were one of the few things we had that would cast well. The resin lets me mimic what Tins do, at a fraction of the cost while allowing me to apply many of my "Hammer Mechanic" tricks

Re: Mackerel and Shad.
yes i know where your coming from tins are getting more expensive especially if you loose a half dozen in a night to the yellow eyed daemons lol.All so they might be the only thing we can use in the future with the talk of banning lead.how do you get the weight from them?i remember when you posted them on Sol but didnt catch that.Since you started fishing in the 50s do you remember the sparkies i think thats the correct name for it they were suposed to be the go to lure back then. They looked like a s shaped strip of mettle with a piece of plastic with sparkles in it,riveted to the lure.

Re: Mackerel and Shad.
The SG of the Resin is 1.03. PRESENTLY. to add weight, I cut lead flashing and place it in the mold when I pour. The lead is completely encapsulated, BUT if need be, I can use flat Iron instead. (Gee Doc, do you think biting all those lead split shots over the decades is going to be a problem for me? )Doc Popper wrote:yes i know where your coming from tins are getting more expensive especially if you loose a half dozen in a night to the yellow eyed daemons lol.All so they might be the only thing we can use in the future with the talk of banning lead.how do you get the weight from them?i remember when you posted them on Sol but didnt catch that.Since you started fishing in the 50s do you remember the sparkies i think thats the correct name for it they were suposed to be the go to lure back then. They looked like a s shaped strip of mettle with a piece of plastic with sparkles in it,riveted to the lure.
Sparkies may have been a New England thing as I have no recollection of them. Originally, I'm from Brooklyn. A lot of the stuff we used was locally made. I'd say most of what I used was Bucktails (Home made), Tins (homemade, with borrowed molds, the machinist guy, Harry, used to make) and Broomstick poppers, yes home made.

Husky you plugs are second to none! I have seen your tutorials on other boards I frequent, would you mind a photo foil demo for us some time, it would be very humbling.

Thanks for the compliment, but the truth of the matter is I'm a "Hammer Mechanic." It's my laziness that inspires me to innovate! There are a good many builder here who have talent I could only hope for. Guys like Etch and Kevin from HCL do stuff that makes me go Huh!Minivin5 wrote:Husky you plugs are second to none!
