A few Short Striped Bass

I had a late night last night. It's a bitch when you get these ideas and want to tie up a fly while their in your head.
Plus the dogs had to go out at 1am   

So here's my take on 2 Striper flies I had in my head.
I rushed them a little which I have a tendency to do, and I didn't get the lateral grizzly hackles tied in just right. but i think they came out ok.

Looks great! Those will work well - I do well using baby striped bass plugs (the Broken Back Bomber in Baby Bass is one of my best producers)

This fly was my try at simulating a small weakfish. it's tough to see with the lighting but there is a violate hue all along the sides and back as when the sun reflects off a weakie's scales.

I miss the old days.
You should post up some pictures in the plug forum of the plugs in your collection that builders on here have built in the past.

Another beauty, Charlie, the shape is just right, too, a killer fly.

Jim not sure if you have weakfish across the pond but here's a picture of 1 with the fly also. It is just my trying to copy a juvenile fish which are pray for striped bass.






That is picture is what the fly looks like after being wet down to see the shape the fly and materials will be when fished.
Again I wish the violet hue on the fly side in the light. I might do another attempt to match the fish.

No Charlie, we don't have them over here, they look nice fish though, I see what you mean about the purple 'haze'. Great flies!

I tied this baby striper up back in January when I tied these others.



I was looking at pictures on Facebook yesterday and low and behold look at what showed up. Link below.
It was tied by another fly fisherman from across the pond as I could tell by the language he posted in.

Isn't it funny how great minds think a like.

I just wish I could draw like this tier can. I like the sketch as much as the fly.

Damn Buddy.....I may have to start fly fishing just so I can Use a few of those!!!!!!!
