Nothing is sacred

Last week I put out 1/2 dozen eel pots hoping that I would have some to fish the full moon tonight. The day before yesterday I paddled out to where I had the pots to give them a check and I had a few eels. Today I paddled back again thinking that if I had a 1/2 dozen or so I would be good for tonight. Turns out that someone beat me to my own pots and took all that was in them. I don't mind someone pulling the pots to take some bait for fishing as long as they put them back in but the very least they could have done was left a few for me (or at least one) Times have changed!!!

These I put a combo of chopped up snapper and chicken. sort of like a surf & turf. Usually I just put in chicken necks and the bait fish go in after that then I guess the eels go after the bait fish.

It's a different time but the same things will happen that happened 20 years ago if you catch someone pulling your pots

andy i have a trap and get nothing but crab and some monster mummy chubs .. i was told a exelant bait is horsecrab for eels ... i would imagine the bottom side ???

Frankly, I think you're lucky that they only took your bait, and left your eel pots for you. I quit collecting live bait a while ago, seems every killie or eel pot I put in the water is stolen. Seems the scumbag thieves come out of the woodwork during fishing season.

Last straw for me was this spring. My son and his buddy wanted to catch, keep and liveline Herring for spring stripers. So I bought them a brand new Herring Keeper, to the tune of $149. They put the cage in the water, in my sons friends backyard, on a lagoon, empty. They go up to Lake Shenendoah, catch about 30 herring, come back to put them in the herring keeper, and it's gone. It was in the water a day and a half. I pretty much just fish with artificials now.

I keep mine in an eel box off my float.......someone took them all.

I just don't get it anymore. Like you said, at least leave a few.
