We have Longnose Gar, Florida Gar, and Alligator Gar the later gets real big, when releasing they you have to be extra careful cause you could lose a finger :affraid:
Alligator Gar records:
World Record - 279.00 pounds, caught in the Rio Grande River, Texas, in 1951.
State Record - 123.00 pounds, caught in the Choctowhatchee River, Walton County, in 1995.

Caught 1 purely by chance. What TEETH!
I never targeted gar them but did catch 1 a couple of springs ago. It felt like I had the bottom of the lake and it was swimming... They're really strong fish. He bit the shank of the hook. The barb was actually under his jaw.
I did pick a few forum posts by guys that do target them. Some spoke about using carpeting instead of hooks believe it or not.
I knew nothing about their  CRAZY  teeth--whew and I opened his mouth with just my index finger and thumb. I've never seen teeth like this on a fish before--beyond razor sharp almost like small fangs of sorts and they interlock with each other. My fish bit the shank of the hook and I still netted it.
