Re: Are you or are you not
Fished off a boat once...Not the same as the surf. The adrenaline isnt the same and it doesnt seem as rewarding, IMO.

I do both......when its too windy to fish on the boat, I go to the beach. But nothing beats watching the sun come up, with the waves crashing, and having the beach to myself :pirat:

Re: Are you or are you not
I'm about 50/50. During Fluke season I'm always in the boat. In the Spring I fish from both the beach and the boat and in the Fall I'm usually on the beach. With the gas prices last year I was probably in the boat a little less than 50%. But I love drifting with the current and pulling a nice big darter along. And I love watching the sun come up with my knees in the water walking a spook across the wave tops. Like I said in my introduction, I am addicted to fishing and I don't discriminate. :pirat:

Mostly the sand and back bays on foot for me. I am a part time fishpicker on my uncle's boat though.. I get free bait out of the deal for the surf so it works both ways for me.

Been a boater all my life and have had my own for the last 14 years. Last year was the first time it didn't hit the water (fuel prices, slip rental). Still haven't decided on this year, got the surf bug and have been doing this for my fishing fix.Still get out on the Del bay for the spring and fall run with friends though.

I love to fish both ways but the surfcasting experience is something almost spiritual for me, being out there for the sunrise, watching the shooting stars at night, the constant sound of crashing waves.....there's nowhere on earth I'd rather be.

Re: Are you or are you not
spring and fall from the surf, summer in the boat for fluke. sometimes in the spring on the boat when I chase those bunker pods because they dont want to come close to shore. those 3 casts from the beach kill me, standing there watching them.

Re: Are you or are you not
I have a 14', decked V-hull that I bout new 14 years ago. It orginally had a console steering with a Johnson 25 hp. Just last year I needed some cash and some more room on the boat, so I traded the console and motor for a 15hp tiller steer and some cash. Over the years I've taken it out on rivers, lakes, back bays, and even the ocean once.
The downside of owning the boat is that there's alway maintenance that has to be done, there's registration money due each year, the hassle of launching, etc. Last year I got a yak and REALLY enjoy it more than taking out the boat. In fact, most of my fishing is done by bridge, sod bank, or yak, and the boat only gets used a few times per year.
If it wasn't for my two sons who like to go out on the boat, I'd sell it in a minute and get a few nice guitars and some stuff for the boys. Who knows, maybe it will pop up in the Yard Sale forum.

I fish from my boat, this will be my 2nd year, hope to get out to more different areas this year. Love the surf too, though.

I am 75% surf and 25% out on my boat. I am starting to be more on the boat as we see more and more surf fisherman on the weekends.

Re: Are you or are you not
Been a boat fisherman as long as I can remember (father bought a boat the same year I was born) and have owned my own for 14 years. But like akozols said it , it's not cheap and and can be a bit of work. Got in to the surf scene and find it easier and less expensive, looking to sell the boat get a kayak and get my fix that way.
