Friday Night Surf Sharking (8-12 8-13)
Hit the beach with Sir Frocket (Kenny) on Friday night for some sharking. Hit up IBSP after stopping at Grumpy's and loading up on some fresh bunkies. Pulled onto the sand under an almost full moon, clear skies and a SW kinda breeze floating by. We started fishing around the top of the tide and into the outgoing. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th casts for me all had action, with the 4th being a huge runoff, which whatever it was dropped the bait after a good 75 yards of screaming. We finished up around low tide and got off the sand. Saw another group of sharkers, who also went 2 for 3 for the evening and they were still going.

Jay looks like a fun time for everyone but the sharks. You have me interested now. What kind and size hooks are you using and do you rig with wire leaders ?? I would lov to try that one night.

Charlie, we've been using 10/0 hooks on wire leader, with the weight on a fishfinder slide. These were caught on 49 strand wire, attached to our reels by way of 65lb PowerPro. Circles are a must for that perfect lip hook......It's the easiest on the shark, and the easiest for us to get the hook out without losing a finger. As for rod & reel, I've been getting a bend on my 11' Tsunami trophy series 3-6oz matched with a Penn Sargus 8000. I've heard so many bad things about the Sargus. So far, I haven't had any problems with the drag or anything, and these boys know how to burn some drag. The first run usually peels about 100 yards of line before you can gain some back, and they usually run about 3 times on ya before they give up. Good luck. Let me know if you plan on going out, I'll gladly join ya.

One thing I will say, it's been a crap shoot for us. Friday was our best night yet. Saturday night, we had one runoff that broke off about a minute in. So far, we have had more unsuccessful nights, than good ones. I'll be back at 'em as soon as this nasty weather gets out of here, and the sea lays down.
