Belly grommets
Any of you guys make jig to bend belly grommets to fit the contour of the plug. I have been bending them the best I can by hand but its hard as hell...

Re: Belly grommets
kind of hard to tell in the pic but im bending the part that you slip in to the plug body not the outer ring..
when you oval the insert part of the grommet it will make the outer ring curl up ....

Re: Belly grommets
for my plugs, I usually drill with a 1/2" forstner bit until the hole is just below flush with the lure, then follow it up with the 3/8" forstner to the through-hole.
leaves a nice little "countersink" for the belly grommet to sit in.

Re: Belly grommets
drill a hole the same dia. of the belly grommet in a piece of 5/8 steel stock. then insert belly grommet and with a rubber mallet you can form the outside to sit nice and flush and contoured to the belly.

Re: Belly grommets
I countersink
Start with a 3/8 forsner and go just deep enough to flatten the surface or maybe indent just a touch, then switch to the bit you use to drill the belly hole and finish it off...... the forsner will leave you a nice centerpoint to work off of.
That tip will cost you some tail........ um um um........ I mean some of the tails Amy ties up

Re: Belly grommets
thanks for showing that trick, now I can stop smashing them in with a sledge hammer to seat them because when I miss the plug gets smashed

Re: Belly grommets
I just stopped using them! I am able to use a heavier swivel without the grommet!

The correct term is "counterbore" A countersink is a tapered hole for a flathead screw. just sayin!
