week 4 etch build
hi Guys
I want to thank smitty for creating such a wonderful home and skippy for coming up with this amazing idea. I'm going to show you how to make a simple, easy shad style bait that is both deadly in fresh and salt water. Hope you will like it.
Start off with a 3/4" piece of pine plus a 1/2 oz sinker, 3 screw eyes and a pikie .5 lip, 5/0 or 3/0 siwash and a 3/0 belly treble. Bait is 4 " long. Once you cut it out round out your edges, you can use a file or a belt sander, or dremmel your choice. Belly hole drilled use a 1/2" bit. randomly draw your gill lines, you can get really technical by finding your favorite gill pattern using carbon copy paper you can draw it out on both sides of the bait the same every time. The 4 bits I use all the time are in the pictures. Pics show how I start and finish each step. When it is finished to your liking, seal it with whatever tickles your fancy, I myslef use lacquer sanding sealer, after the bait has been sealed thread a screw eye through a 1/2 oz sinker into the belly hole, epoxy it in and over, now you can prime your bait white. Next we start with a scale pattern that I actually had my wife do on the computer and then I cut the scales out one at a time, as you can tell I have tone of patience. I spray a light misting of a pearl white mixed with a couple drops of silver, then I spray a transparent orange next in a random pattern. Followed by red and black. Will post how to finish the bait later this week. PS if anyone would like a template of the bait Nancy can scan and put it up, as well as the scale pattern. Let me know.
thanks
Etch

Re: week 4 etch build
This is the finished guy epoxied, as you can see I used a watered down transparent orange and fogged over the bait with it. The one thing I like about this pattern, you can switch up the colours that you use for a different look and effect each time. ie you can start with a base coat of light orange, yellow etc. Hope you like it.
Thanks
