Re: Blackfish Rigs
I start my rigs by connecting my leader(50#) to my main line(65#PP) with a crazy al knot, I'll usually run about 6' of leader with a simple end loop at the bottom and a dropper loop a couple inches up so the hook lays by the sinker. I've expirimented with lots of hooks and have no real favorite but a good choice is a live bait hook in the 2/0-4/0 range or an octopus in 2/0-4/0. hook size depends on the size of fish in the area and the bait being used.
This is my basic pier/jetty/bridge rig when fishing deep water wrecks there are a few things i'll change

Same set up but I put the hook a few feet above the sinker. I also either use a loop to loop to attach the sinker using liter mono or put a sacrificial overhand knot just above the sinker. Loose the sinker keep the hook and hopefully fish. I move the hook up or down based on bite, but prefer to have it high so I don’t have to retie a leader after every brake off.

I've heard of this and thought about trying it. only thing is lead is expensive and there are times i snag up, but after working it a lil i can pop it out. I'm not sure i'd be able to do with a lighter line on the sinker

Get a mold and poor your own… .20 a pound or use wheel weights for free. My grandfather used to even use old spark plugs or cut up a potato sack and use extra line to tie rocks up in it.

I use this rig: 2 - 2/0 or 3/0 Owner or Gammi hooks, #5 crossline swivel, #4 SPRO power swivel, sinker slide.
12" 40lb fluorocarbon hook leaders & 8"-10" 40lb fluorocarbon for the sliding sinker.

Re: Blackfish Rigs
Thanks! I Keep a tight line slide on the crossline when i feel a bite i lower the rod tip a few inches. Wait a second or two then set the hook. Never really fight the sinker & its a very productive rig
It works well with a three way swivel, or two barrel swivels & a single hook.

I lost a few last year that i dropped on the wreck, other then that IMO, its the same as any 3 way tog rig. Im not sure but it feels like it allows you to get the fishes head above horizontal faster & lessens the chance for the fish to go back into the structure.

Re: Blackfish Rigs
