Where are the monster yellow eyes?
Are they getting close to our beaches? Seems like we have enough bait fish in the surf,,water temps are hitting 70. I have caught some cocktails and have heard scattered reports,, but no blitz or consistency.

im waiting for them to show up also ..love fighting them off the beach....
Re: Where are the monster yellow eyes?
i was throwing eels last night on the beach and the midnight party boats seemed like they were about 6-8 miles off in a huge clump. hopefully some will branch off and come on shore. we have plenty of bait to keep them happy.

Re: Where are the monster yellow eyes?
Odd that they didn't hit the beaches like they normally do in late May/early June.Though Sandy Hook had a nice run of the big blues in May for a couple of weeks.................I love tangling with the big blues 8)

Re: Where are the monster yellow eyes?
Hey everyone I have come to the conclusion that the Bluefish action has been poor due to all of the heavy rain we had eariler in the spring. We normally start seeing the first blues in the Inlet/Bay around April 16th. That week we had heavy rains, catches of bluefish were mostly nil. Also, there was a lack of bait present.... I know that bluefish thrive better in waters with a higher salt content, as well as weakfish. Could it be that during the bluefish migration they encountered waters not suitable. Honestly I think that the blues stayed offshore and the ones that were in our inshore waters continued to migrate north. We've had a lot of rain this spring, think about it... It makes sense........

Re: Where are the monster yellow eyes?
First waves of Blues are coming back in from the spawn with small snappers. The mouth of the Long Island Sound has been loaded with 10 to 12lbs Blues by the thousands last week. Middle Ground is loaded with them. Problem is they are hungry. With the waters being a month behind in temps for so long the bait isn't where it normally is. I don't have a single bunker in any harbor around me for 30 miles. The waters didn't warm fast enough so they they never showed up. The ones south of me were hammered by netters and now there are none to come up. Fish don't care what I have in my log books from the last 25yrs. They will go to where the food is. My Fluke fishing as well as Bass is also suffering because of the water temps that are just now back to normal. The large Fluke and bass that are normally here now are still out. I killed out ot Block Island last week when normally it sucks there now. Fish are staying with the food.
IMO go find bait if you want to catch fish. From shore it's not going to be easy and it will change daily because the bait isn't sitting still. Really sucks for shore guys unless your on bait. Sand eels are everywhere. I have taken tons of big fish feeding in them because they are it as far as bait. From shore first light and night time are best feeding times. From the boat I run and gun in search of bait. not just on top. On spots, structure, rips, river mouths. I'll find bait and fish it until fish find me.
good luck
Jay
