I've been keeping busy
In this cold weather I have been keeping busy at the tying vice.
I was asked to tie up some flies for a fund raiser for the ASWFF club and here's some I've been tying up.
A school of kinky muddlers. 3 are tied on articulated shanks with a rear trailer 3/0 hook.
A few smaller kinkys that I weighted with lead wire wrapped on the hook shanks.
A little trimming and shaping and they will all be done.
Below are the articulated ones.
I also gave a try to tying a mullet fly out of congo hair.

Re: I've been keeping busy
Very nice work! I am curious as to the articulated ones... Do they have a wider side to side action? I am a new fly maker and have been tying droppers, teasers and Flounder rigs for a couple years now... My work is still crude but my flies usually catch fish... Last year I took a Herring Pattern Fly and snelled a short length of doubled 85lb. braid to a 2/0 live bait hook and then tied on some chartreuse marabou on and ended up with a dressed hook on a 2'' loop of heavy braid... I looped this around the hook shank of the Herring pattern fly and had an "almost articulated" fly. The action was great! big side to side swing and nice horizontal posture when at rest. I fished it on a spinning rod with a 3/8 oz. bullet weight and caught mid -twenties size Stripers one afternoon last spring. They would not hit our typical offerings... but they liked that fly that day, a slow lift and crawl retrieve got it done... This dressed loop hook can be added to practically and lure. I have removed the trebles and replaced them with a hook on some crank baits and they look good but have not caught yet. We don't have many large Bluefish in my area, I am sure they would bite thru the braid quick. How do you articulate your Flies?

Slim first I like to welcome you to the site. There are some good guys on here..
As for the articulated flies. There are a few ways I've done mine. One is with an articulated shank from "Senyo" products, The other is with the stinger hook system. The latter is shown in this youtube video.
https://youtu.be/PFJ5PhVLU48
The movement on each is a little different. To much material and it impedes the trailer action. To little and you have problems with the trailer fouling, it is also up to the tier to find the right gap between hooks or hook and plain shank.
The movement of the tail section comes from 2 sources, one is the turbulence of the water coming around the head of your fly and hitting the tail to move it. And the second could come from a cross current hitting the tail of the fly causing movement.
The ones I have tied don't have a big wiggle but do have a swing side to side. it can be tricky finding out just the right amount of material to put on the fly or shank to get a free movement. So all I can say is trial and error is what let's you know. That may not be a whole lot of info but is al I can say about it.
Here's another video of a multi articulated fly that is new to the market.

Randy I get all mine off Ebay. You just need to look them over real good, and depends on how good of a skin you want.
All bad eyes I repair as best I can.

Completely forgot to look there. Been struggling to find good ones and had to use a couple plastic ones at times for lack of definition in real ones.
