lrgm bass

im new to top water spooks for bass. it seems every time a bass slams the spook it never gets hooked! when the hit it they knock it into the air and out of the way. is it too big? its a 4" spook. what gives? im not setting the hook right away just tryn to let them take it and run but its hard when its hit 2' from where it was. any thoughts? thanks

You might want to see how your hooks are hanging and make sure they are sharp.

Are you using a Zara Spook or some other brand?


One thing that almost always works is to keep another rod handy with a 4-5" senko type lure - as soon as you miss a topwater bite follow it up with the soft plastic - they almost always will take that on the splash

its a heddon spook jr. yes hooks are very sharp! lol it seems like the hooks are hanging good , no weeds or sticks stuck on it so its me. its always me. i always take 2 rods because thats what i do is hit em with the other rod. sometimes it works but other times?? practice , practice practice! thanks! well i cant practice sitting here so off i go!

Upgrade those hooks! Makes a HUGE difference
