Back Bay CHarter
Fished the back bay today with dad Roy, his son Jake, Cousin Emma, and friend June Bug. The wind was a lot harder than called for, as usual. Tide wasn't the best, but you work with what you have. We started out drifting in Herefords. Drifts were nice and long, not to fast, but the bites were few and far between. We tried it twice and moved. I worked over a nice ledge coming off a flat and the boys each hooked up a short Flounder. After that, someone threw a switch and the wind kicked up about 10 knots more. Killed our drift. Tried back trolling, but it tough to do with three kids who aren't real sure about maintaining ground contact. So, we moved. I anchored up on some bumpy bottom near a deep undercut sod bank. Kids no sooner got their lines down when they were hooked up. For the next two hours it was one after another Sea Bass and mother-in-laws (Oyster Crackers). Big deal right? Kids loved it! They had bent rods and big smiles. Highlights were Jake getting his second ever Flounder on the day, and Bug getting the Doggie he so badly wanted. So we couldn't get onto the wrecks, we made the best of it and had a blast.
Yesterday, we hosted a few of my daughters friends for a beach/pool party. So I took the opportunity to fish while playing lifeguard. Ended up catching a small Weakie, Kingfish, Doggie, and a Spot. Not the greatest fishing, but it passed the time while the girls played.
